1,000 Books Before Kindergarten helps parents give their children a solid learning foundation. Studies have shown reading aloud to children helps strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary. 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten can help your child to:

     Love books and reading
     Enjoy the library (their brains’ playground!)
     Learn new words
     Be motivated and curious
     Prepare for reading




 
How the Program Works:
  1. Register for the program.
  2. Record books read in your online account.
  3. Bring your child to the library after reading 100 books to receive a milestone certificate.
  4. Certificates are awarded at 100 book increments.
  5. Attend quarterly and annual programs just for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten participants.
  6. Keep reading until you reach 1000 books.
  7. For extra engagement, use the printable progress log to provide a visual aid for your child.
 
How Can I Read 1,000 Books?

3 books a day for 1 year = 1,095 books
1 book a day for 3 years = 1,095 books

You can:

Read the same book over, and over, and over.
Read in any language.
Story Times count, too!
Read books from anywhere – home, daycare, libraries.
Count the book for each child if you are reading to more than one at a time.
